DEI Book Discussion on Neurodiversity

Moujan Walkow
On March 23, the DEI coordinators, with the help of a team of parents and other faculty, hosted our spring book club, where more than 30 parents and faculty came together to discuss the topic of neurodiversity. The catalyst for the discussions was Mark Haddon’s bestselling novel, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, which tells the story of a young boy with autism who embarks on a quest to investigate the suspicious death of his neighbor’s dog. In the author’s words, the novel is about “difference, about being an outsider, about seeing the world in a surprising and revealing way.” In small groups, parents and faculty engaged in rich conversations as they shared their experiences and perspectives.
